Rice is a staple dish in most Asian home. It contains carbohydrates, and is rich in melatonin (helps you to sleep well at night) . Most people with a family use a pressure cooker. For a single person, it is more convenient to cook in a aluminum container. Appliances: Gas stove, aluminum container preferred (in a steel container, the rice is more likely to get burnt) 100 g rice 250 ml water (approx. double the volume of the rice) If the rice is of a new crop, less water is required, for older rice a little more water is required.
First wash the rice and keep it aside. Boil the water in small container. After the water has started boiling, add the rice to it. The container should be partly covered with a lid. Wait till all the water evaporates and switch off the gas.
Rice can be eaten with chutney or curds.
